I am not able to login to a PC computer. What do I do?
1) First make sure the CAPS LOCK on your keyboard is not turned on. The login password is case sensitive.

2) Make sure your spelling and your login information is correct.

3) Make sure that the login window says “logon on to 4jnet.” It should NOT say “ logon to this computer.”

4) Also make sure the box for “logon using dial-up connection” is unchecked.

5) Make sure the wifi switch is turned on, slide towards the red circle in the image below. (please note this is for dell
laptops)

6) If you are still having problems then you will need your password reset. Please check with your teacher or see Mr. Hartman in room 107 to have it reset.

 

I am not able to login to the NEHS wireless. What can I do?
1) Make sure your wireless is turned on. There is a switch on the side of your laptop. Make sure it is in the ON position and the WIFI light on the computer is lit up.

2) If you are not getting the login page to come up then do this manually. In the address field of your browser window, type this: https://wgw-4j.lane.edu

3) Make sure your spelling and your login information is correct. The login password is case sensitive.

4) If still having problems then you will need your password reset. Please see your teacher or see Mr. Hartman in room 107 to have it reset

I am not able to login to Ideas Web portal or Grade portal. What do I do?
1) First make sure the CAPS LOCK on your keyboard is not turned on. The login password is case sensitive.

2) Make sure your spelling and your login information is correct.

3) If still having problems then you will need your password reset. Check with your teacher or see Mr. Harman in room 107 to have it reset.

My computer is not printing anything at all. What do I do?
1) In order to print to a network printer you must first be on the network. Go to the Internet to make sure you are on. If you are on a wireless connection you must login to the NEHS wireless first.

2) If you are on a LAN connection then make sure your network cable is not unplugged. Network cables are usually yellow color and plugged into the rear or side of computer.

3) Make sure the network printer is on and has paper. If you see any amber lights on the printer flashing then that is an error. Check with your teacher, supervisor or Mr. Hartman in room 107.

My computer is frozen and not responding. What can I do?
1) You can press the control key (Ctrl) +Alt + delete key and force quit an application. To do this find the application that is not responding by clicking on the application and end task button.

2) If all else fails you can hold the power button down for about 6-8 seconds until the computer shuts off. Then press it again to turn it back on. Everything that wasn’t saved will be lost.

Whats the problem with using both webmail and Eudora?

1)

I use Eudora on my work computer and Webmail on my home computer.
I have a problem when I use webmail and download new mail. Then go to my Eudora and download new mail. Now when I go back to my webmail and check mail all my mail in the Inbox is gone. What can I do?

 

You need to change your Eudora settings to leave mail on server.

First open Eudora and go up to Tools then to Options. See in picture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next you will need to go to incoming mail under category. Check the box for leave mail on server. Also check the box delete off of server after 7 days. See picture below.
If you are going to use two programs then be sure to move your inbox email in webmail to a folder you create. Call it old mail. The reason is after 7 days your inbox webmail will be wiped.

My Mac is frozen. The mouse cursor just spins. What can I do?
1) The command keys to force quit an application are the Apple command button + Option + Esc (Escape).

2) If this doesn’t work hold down the power button for about 6-8 seconds until it powers down. Then you can reboot.

How do I right click with a one button mouse?
In order to simulate a right click on a one button mouse on a mac is to hold down the control key and click.

How do I eject/insert a CD or DVD?
Press the key on your keyboard in the upper right hand corner (normally F12).

Can I use my USB flashdrive/thumbdrive drive on your Macs?
Yes, OS X will recognize most common file systems including those used on Windows based computers. You may have to plug the drive into the back of the computer since the keyboard USB port doesn't always have enough power.

How do I eject my USB flash drive/thumbdrive drive?
Control click on it and choose eject or drag it to the trash.

English is not my native language - how can I change my system language or keyboard layout?
Open System Preferences from the Apple menu and click on International. Under the Language tab, drag your preferred language to the top. To change your keyboard layout, click on the Input Menu tab and turn on your preferred keyboard layout.

What web browser should I use on OS X?
We suggest Safari. You can locate Safari either in the bottom dock or Macintosh HD/Applications folder.
